I believe that Rhythm is a natural aspect of all existence.
Everyone is a part of that!
Rhythm is in every beating Heart, inhales and exhales, the ebb and flow of tides, the rising and setting of the Sun and Moon, the change of Seasons, the orbits of the planets around the Sun, and on and on...
Rhythm is cycles, repeating patterns and is even ancient technology that was used to communicate, heal the sick and alter consciousness to higher states of awareness.
Science has proven over and over again, the numerous Heath benefits that Drumming can have on our physical and mental health.
Drumming and Rhythm are powerful tools for healing, upliftment, unlocking our Truest Selves- and even radical transformation.
I have experienced the power of Rhythm and the power of the Drum in my own personal life as well as witnessing first-hand the radical transformational experiences of so many others.
My passion to share the Gift of Rhythm with others is equalled by my passion to bring people together and help make our World a better place!

A FAMILY AFFAIR
When I was 3 years of age, I would often climb into the open-headed bass drum of my father's drumset and nestle onto the muffle blanket where I would be lulled to sleep by the deep and pulsing boom sounds and the funky groove beats of my parent's band rehearsals. This is one of my first signs that I had a natural draw to rhythm and drums.
My parents were in a busy, touring band that included my Dad- lead singer and drummer, my Mom, singer, two aunts who sang, played saxophones and flute as well as my uncle who was the bass player. There was one member that was NOT a family member- the guitar player, but it was definitely a 'Family Affair' and my early childhood was immersed in Music as I traveled with my young sisters and the band across the United States and Canada while they toured.
THE UNEXPECTED
We eventually settled as family and built a home in a small town outside of the Cleveland, Ohio area near where my Grandparents lived. My childhood was filled with Music and Art growing up- continuing to watch my parent's many rehearsals, recording sessions and even perform on stage with my sisters at my parent's shows at times.
They saw my other blooming talents in the Visual and Performing Arts and gave me every opportunity to develop my creative expression further. I gravitated to the drums in my school, but also loved my Aunt's saxophone's, so had Saxophone Lessons, Art Lessons, Dance Lessons and Acting Lessons and developed all these areas with a passion.
My childhood was shaped with many performances and shows. My family had grown with all cousins also budding with Musical talents Every Holiday Season we created and performed elaborate Christmas Shows that we performed for our neighbors and friends then eventually it grew bigger and we brought the Annual Christmas Show to out in our Community- like Nursing Homes to bring joy and the Spirit of the Season to others.
This impressed upon me how Music could really help uplift others and not just my own personal enjoyment. Suddenly, we got unexpected news that my Father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer and suddenly, after an intense 2 years, he made his early exit at just 30 yrs of age- I was 9. This pivoted me in significant ways and I was gifted his drumset.
The following years brought me closer to Rhythm and I released a lot of emotions through playing his drums and writing songs. I developed a strong spiritual awareness and empathic connection to Music.
GIRL BANDS, ROCK STARS & MUSIC INDUSTRY
High school years I was a 'girl' drummer for a band I formed with friends and I felt how hard it was to be considered a drummer as a 'girl' in those times- when it was still very much a boy's dominated world. I wanted to get out of my small town and see the world and thought becoming a flight attendant would help me do that. So I did.
I moved to New Jersey as I was based out of La Guardia Airport and flew my usual route from New York to Las Angeles almost every day.
On my days off, I would be playing music gigs with a a girl band in New York where we performed our original songs- many of which I was now getting paid to write, which was exciting for me!
On one of my regular flights, I met a high profile A & R rep for Polygram Records. We became friends over the long repeating flights back and forth from New York to L.A. He was looking for a temporary assistant to help with his work in the 'Artist and Repertoire' division. If accepted, I could work on my own time as a 'talent scout' for a specific demographic of up and coming 'boy bands' that they were seeking. This temporary position would pay me with free concerts and back stage passes to high profile Artists that Polygram Records had signed.
I was crushed by the fact they were not seeking any 'girl' bands? Why only boy bands? This was explained as 'just the 'trend' in the industry at the time and he thought I was connected enough in the industry, had Musical prowess enough to spot the talent and was a good fit to find him the next big 'boy band', Although I was saddened by the awareness of male dominated music industry, as a young woman- who happened to also play drums- (also a very male-dominated instrument) I thought - 'OK, this was still exciting and sounded fun. Perhaps this would be a path that would lead me into a bigger 'break' later on. I accepted.
Over the next 2 months, I found 3 different 'up and coming' Artists that I scouted in the New York music scene and got them in front of my new A& R friend to audition. They ended up signing one of the Artists.Soon I received a hand written letter and invitation from Mr. CLIVE DAVIS himself (an iconic Music Executive and Music Lawyer) to a special upcoming Bon Jovi concert with special VIP Access and to have dinner with the band and the management team afterwards. I was so excited!
I brought my best friend as my guest (who was a big fan of Bon Jovi ) and it was an amazing experience. This meeting led to more- and with many other high profile bands. I continued flying and began working more with Polygram Records than playing in my own band. I began living a double life of 'normalcy' as a flight attendant and then living the 'High Life' with celebrities, limousines, private jets and all. It was very interesting and I remember feeling the stark contrast of my Life, but struggling to discover who really 'I' was. I was yearning to find my own inner rhythm.
FAMILY LIFE
Eventually, the 'hustle and bustle' of all the flying, concerts and parties had me missing the quiet in my Life. I didn't want to be traveling all of the time. I wanted to settle down in a home I could actually enjoy. I was tired of the 'hotel life'. The temporary position at Polygram Records had finished and Bon Jovi - the band I had become close friends with over the couple of years- went to tour in Japan.
I had met someone, got married and started a family of my own. I loved being a Mother, but quickly lost sight of my own passions, I lost sight of the 'me' and took on the identity of 'Mom' only. This was a big learning opportunity for me.
I was asked to help part-time teaching Music at the Montessori school my daughter attended and I quickly saw how much I enjoyed sharing the joy of Music with Children. I began teaching Drum Lessons there with many girl students who were inspired by having a 'Lady Drum Teacher' and I developed a much anticipated 'Annual Holiday Show' all with the students there.
DRUM CIRCLES, AFRICAN RHYTHM INFLUENCES, DRUMMING & HEALING
I was invited one day to attend a Drum Circle. I was curious to know what this was all about as I had no idea the world that was about open up for me.
I came home with bruised hands (as I had no idea how to play a hand drum with any skill or technique yet) and was filled with energy, elation and drunk with passion with this new way of drumming with no sticks!
I loved the concept of Unity it fostered- the free-style, in-the-moment Music that was created, the connection of my hand directly transferring the energy to the drum without a stick between, (although I still loved the sticks too ;)This one drum Circle changed my Life.
At the end of the Drum Circle, I was referred to someone who was a leading Drum Circle Facilitator (I didn't even know there was such a position!) and was asked if I would like to train and work with her. What???
I was just introduced to this world of hand drums and I bleated out an enthusiastic "yes!" before she even finished asking! Also, being that she was a female drummer AND a leading expert in this amazing work really was inspiring to me.I went on to train and work with 'Drum Magic' for 5 years. I learned many African songs, facilitated for many different types of groups from small to large, children to Seniors, small businesses to large corporate events and much more.I lead drumming groups with young men in detention centers who were fighting each other when I arrived, and after the drum Circle were 'high-fiving' each other. It amazed me.I drummed with Autistic children in a 12 week program for a study on how drumming enhances the ability to learn. The results were conclusive- they learned significantly more with drumming!
I began researching all the science and benefits behind Drum Circles and group drumming. I discovered piles of data that proved the wide range benefits in physical, mental and spiritual aspects. This confirmed what I already knew intuitively, but was fascinating to document.
I began to receive recognition for my work as a Drum Circle Facilitator at this time, such as being invited to speak on many podcasts about' the power of Group Drumming as a tool for transformation', writing articles on Drumming for local wellness magazine publications. I was featured in the local paper for my Children's Drumming program that I was facilitating weekly at a popular Mall as well as for a Group Drumming Class I began teaching at various shops throughout my community.
I also began learning African Rhythms more by taking African Drum and Dance classes and playing djembe and Duns for local, performing African Musician and Griot, Baye Kouyate. I learned a lot about the rich and iconic culture of Rhythm in Africa and was excited to be the blond haired drummer alongside such an esteemed Musician from Mali, Africa.
I was honored to receive a full page feature story in the Inaugural Edition of Drum Circle Magazine and was invited and flown to Raleigh, NC to be a leading Drum Circle Facilitator for the Annual, Star-Studded 'Drum Strong' 3-Day event.
By this time, I had started my own Drum Circle Facilitation Business called ' YOUniversal Rhythms' and when I wasn't facilitating a drum circle- which also required much from my voice for singing songs and speaking often over the drums, I was playing percussion for a leading wedding band and also singing lead every weekend.
(this took a heavy toll on my voice and lead me on another Journey with my Voice that became an important story that I share in my Women's empowerment Programs.)
INDIAN RHYTHM INFLUENCE, SPIRITUAL GROWTH, DRUMMING FOR WELLNESS
I had met someone very special in my Life at this time, who happened to be a highly skilled Tabla Musician and Composer from India. In my relationship over many years - I had been exposed to the Indian Music Culture in a very immersive way. This brought me to learning about Indian Rhythms and the different Taal structures, Kaidas,, Tehais and Konokol, as well as learning to play Tabla a little- under the expert tutelage of my partner.
I had lived in India for over a year and been back 2 more times later on- each time witnessing first hand- many other world reknowned Musicians perform live. Additionally, being in India gave me many opportunities to play in fusion type settings.I was honored to be invited by Ranjit Barot- a legendary Indian Drummer- to play percussion for India's version of MTV television series called 'Coke Sudio' sessions for Ash King. I also performed fusion music at many other venues over the years for my time in India. Indian Music has significantly shaped my overall Musicality and significantly influenced my playing.
I began a much more inward focus during these years, which opened me up to a deep well of spiritual awareness. I began understanding myself in new ways. Many things came to the surface, which revealed things I needed to let go of, if I wished to evolve spiritually. I was made aware of my strong connection to the ancient native american cultures and shamanistic culture. This brought the connection to the Medicine Drum and Shamanic Drum Journeys and profound Healings through my many 'past life'/parallel life encounters.
I was inspired to study Sound Healing and decided to advance my knowledge through taking courses in Sound Healing and 'Drum Healing' through the Strong Institute.I began utilizing the science and principles in my Drum Circles and noticed amazing transformations in myself and the people I worked with.
THE RHYTHM GOES ON
Today, I have taken all of these influences and experiences, combined with the Wisdom I have distilled. I have shaped my playing, teaching and Facilitating to reflect a unique flavor of 'Rhythm Medicine'. I continue to grow and expand in consciousness to become more and more of who I AM and it is my intention to share the joy and power of Rhythm with others as we Rise together.
I will always choose to be a Student of Rhythm. It is a Master Teacher.I am honored to share my gifts, talents and Wisdom with everyone whom I am Blessed to connect with on this Journey.
Thank you for allowing me to share my Rhythm Story thus far- so much more to come!
